Busy Weekend Downtown: 2012 Atlanta International Auto Show, Publix Georgia Marathon

ATLANTA – (March 14, 2012) Downtown Atlanta will be busy this weekend with several events taking place on the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) campus and surrounding areas. Of particular note, there will be many street closings on Sunday because of the Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon (see alternate route below).

Atlanta International Auto Show: Wednesday, March 14-Sunday, March 18 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Building C. Hours vary per day.

Publix Georgia Marathon Health & Fitness Expo: Friday, March 16, 2012, noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 17, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Georgia World Congress Center in Building A.

Cuties Luckie 5K and Kids Fun Run: Saturday, March 17 at Centennial Olympic Park. The Cuties Luckie 5K begins at 8 a.m., and the Kids Fun Run begins at 9 a.m.

Atlanta St. Patrick’s Parade: Saturday, March 17 at noon at Peachtree St. and Ralph McGill Blvd. proceeding down Peachtree St. towards Woodruff Park ending at Five Points on Marietta St.

Publix Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon: Sunday, March 18, 2012, starting at 7 a.m., from Marietta Street/CNN Building and finishing at Centennial Olympic Park.

Alternate Route
Because of the Publix Georgia Marathon and consequential street closings, individuals driving from the north to attend the International Auto Show on Sunday should take the following alternate route to enter the lower entrance to the GWCC’s Red Deck. Routes from other directions (from the south, west and east) will not be affected and can be referenced here: http://www.gwcc.com/directions/directions/BuildingC.aspx

FROM THE NORTH:
Take I-75/85 South to North Ave. (Exit 249 D). Turn RIGHT onto North Ave. Turn LEFT onto Northside Drive. Turn LEFT at Georgia Dome Drive, just past the Georgia Dome. Follow Georgia Dome Drive to the end of the street. At the stop sign turn LEFT. The Lower entrance to the Red Deck will be on your right.

Take I-75 South to Northside Dr. (Exit 252). Turn RIGHT onto Northside Dr. Turn LEFT at Georgia Dome Drive, just past the Georgia Dome. Follow Georgia Dome Drive to the end of the street. At the stop sign turn LEFT. The Lower entrance to Red Deck will be on your right.

Take MARTA
Attendees are encouraged to take MARTA to minimize traffic. MARTA offers free daily parking at 23 of its stations. The Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center Station is located on the GWCC campus, and fare is $2.50 each way. For more information about riding MARTA go to: http://www.itsmarta.com
