Foundry Street to permanently close; Baker Street extended into gulch
ATLANTA (May 9, 2012) – As construction progresses on the College Football Hall of Fame, residents of Atlanta will notice roadway changes near the building site. Foundry Street, intersecting the construction site, will close permanently on Monday, May 13 as build-out of the Hall continues. Baker Street, which lines the north end of the property, has been widened and extended around to the west of the site (adjacent to the railroad tracks). It now extends into the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) gulch and will provide access to the Omni Hotel and GWCC loading docks, as well as parking for the GWCC and Phillips Arena.
The College Football Hall of Fame is being relocated from South Bend, Ind., to downtown Atlanta on the site previously known as the GWCC “Green Lot”. The state-of-the-art facility, at 94,256 square feet, will feature historic and contemporary artifacts, interactive multimedia displays, children’s activities, a theater featuring a 3D/4K film on the history and excitement of college football, meeting facilities, and private event spaces. The Hall is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014.
