MEDIA STATEMENT: GEORGIA DOME DEC. 20 DEMOLITION
ATLANTA – (Dec. 20, 2017)
At 1 a.m. today, the secondary demolition of the Georgia Dome was successfully executed, with all explosive charges being detonated. The very quick event produced no harm to staff or demolition crew members and minimal damage to surrounding facilities from small debris – a shattered exterior glass panel of Building C of Georgia World Congress Center (already in process of replacing) and a small nick on an exterior glass panel of Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The event produced a minimal dust cloud that was contained to the site, thanks to the rain.
Clean up is well underway and all facilities are up and running. It’s business as usual at the No. 1 convention, sports and entertainment destination in the world.
