What could be better than sweet symphonic sounds underneath the stars in the open autumn air of downtown Atlanta’s crown jewel?
How about free?
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), celebrating its 75th anniversary season, brings the Around The A free concert series to the newly-renovated Southern Company Amphitheater at Centennial Olympic Park on Wednesday (Sept. 25) evening.
“As part of our 75th Anniversary Season, we look forward to connecting more Atlantans with the transformative power of music than ever before,” said Tammy Hawk, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the ASO. “The beautifully renovated Southern Company Amphitheater in the beloved Centennial Olympic Park is the perfect stage to kick off our ASO75 Around The A series.”
The concert program, which begins at 7 p.m. Wednesday, features selections by famed composers Mendelssohn, Bartok, Verdi, Mozart, Rossini and Haydn, performed by the orchestra and soprano vocalist Jennifer Cherest, under the direction of Associate Conductor Stephen Mulligan.
Prior to the main event, young musicians in the ASO’s Talent Development Program and Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra will perform at 6 p.m. at the amphitheater.

THIS WEEK ON CAMPUS
The Solution Tree Culture Keepers event focused on leadership training for school principals, which kicked off Monday (Sept. 23), continues today (Sept. 24) and Wednesday (Sept. 25) at the Georgia Ballroom, Building C of the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC).
The American Heart Association’s Metro Atlanta Heartwalk is set for Saturday (Sept. 28) anchored at the GWCCA’s Yellow Lot off Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd. The 5K walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and after-walk festivities close at 11 a.m.
Also on Saturday (Sept. 28), The Home Depot Backyard on the GWCCA campus hosts the inaugural Festival de la Cultura Latina, celebrating the best in Latin food, music, performance
The Atlanta Falcons (1-2) look to get back on track Sunday (Sept. 29) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium against the Tennessee Titans (1-2). Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
Meanwhile, the GWCCA’s across-the-street neighbor State Farm Arena hosts a five day/night residency of Disney On Ice starting Wednesday (Sept. 25) and running through Sunday (Sept. 29).
