The visioning project in Centennial Olympic Park has reached a major milestone. Phase I of the project is due to be completed in two weeks, just in time for the park to kick off spring time in Atlanta with the Sweetwater 420 Fest. Included in the Phase I project were the demolition of the Metro Atlanta Chamber Building, creating three additional acres of green space, adding legacy pieces such as a medal podium plaza, and creating a pedestrian pathway out of the former Andrew Young International roadway.
Recently, we took WSB-TV’s Craig Lucie out to the construction site to see all the progress that has been made and you can view his report below. Especially impressive was the preservation of original Adopt-A-Bricks (from the campaign that ran from 1994-1996 and served to fund construction of the park) to be relocated along Andrew Young International Boulevard, raising the former roadway and creating a grand pedestrian promenade.
