ATLANTA- (May 1, 2014) – The USA Wrestling Southeast Regional Championships, hosted by Team Georgia Wrestling, will take place at the Georgia World Congress Center May 24-25. This event will showcase the best in amateur wrestling in all three styles; Folkstyle (wrestled in high school), Freestyle and Greco-Roman (wrestled globally and in the Olympics).
The Freestyle and Greco-Roman competitions are major qualifiers for the Cadet and Junior National Championships held in Fargo North Dakota in July. Last year, Georgia had a best ever showing with 16 All-Americans, eight of which were in the finals.
“Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling really teaches the fundamentals of this sport, the more skills you master in any style of wrestling, the better wrestler you can become. That is why most of your High School State Champions wrestle Freestyle and Greco Roman in the spring and summer”, says Anthony Flatt, Chairman of Team Georgia USA Wrestling, “The Southeast Regional Championships is an excellent event with outstanding competition. That is why it has grown to be one of the largest Freestyle and Greco Roman Championships in the Nation.”
The Southeast Regional Championships is open to wrestlers of all ages and will include clinics and workshops to help improve their skills.
“The Southeast Regionals allow the Team Georgia wrestler a stage to showcase his or her skills and toughness competing against some of the best competitors in the Southeast and the nation.” Says Sean Moistner, Team Georgia National Team Coach “This tournament has been a tremendous factor in the success of Team Georgia at the National Duals and Fargo.”
The vision of Team Georgia is to be: “The premier organization enabling Georgia to be a “Top Tier” -wrestling state”; and they plan to continue achieving that vision by: “Expanding participation and promoting excellence in Georgia wrestling.”
