Tuesday Talk: Mouse in the house for MomoCon 2020

Tuesday Talk rounds up the latest Georgia World Congress Center Authority (GWCCA) news you might have missed and also points forward to upcoming events on our campus.

MomoCon, the self-described “all-ages geek culture convention in Atlanta” that will return to the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) over Memorial Day weekend, has added the world’s most famous animated rodent to its celebrity guest lineup.

No, not Master Splinter.

We’re talking Mickey Mouse, mascot of The Walt Disney Co. Or at least his voice.

Bret Iwan, the official voice of Mickey Mouse since 2009, is slated to appear at MomoCon, along with fellow Disney-ans, Bill Farmer, the official voice of Mickey’s pal Goofy, and Jason Marsden, who provided the voice for Goofy’s son, Max, in “A Goofy Movie.” Other featured guests at MomoCon, set for May 21-24, include industry professionals from the worlds of animation, comics, costuming and gaming, as well as online personalities and performers. Check out the lineup here.

MomoCon, the homegrown gathering for animation, gaming, comics, and cosplay enthusiasts, is one of the fastest-growing all-ages fan conventions in the country and drew its biggest crowd to date last year, and this year is moving to the more spacious Building B.

As such, MomoCon recently published a YouTube video exploring Building B’s virtues, including more than 790,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space compared to last year’s 466,000 square footage in Building A, the wide-open, natural-light filled concourses leading to the exhibit halls, more seating space, more food and beverage options, and even the facility’s koi ponds – perfect backdrops for cosplay selfie and photo shoots.
