U.S. WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM MATCH AGAINST RUSSIA POSTPONED TO THURSDAY, FEB. 13, AT GEORGIA DOME IN ATLANTA

CHICAGO (Feb. 10, 2014) – The U.S. Women’s National Team’s match against Russia scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12, has been postponed because of inclement weather in the Atlanta area. The game will be played at the Georgia Dome on Thursday, Feb. 13, with a kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET. The USA’s open training session on Tuesday, Feb. 11, has also been canceled.

Tickets purchased for the previously scheduled match on Feb. 12 will be honored for the rescheduled match on Feb. 13 at the Georgia Dome. Customers who cannot attend may request a full refund from the original point of purchase. Fans who ordered tickets online can contact Ticketmaster customer service at 1-800-653-8000. All refunds must be requested no later than Sunday, Feb. 23.

Initial weather reports indicated a winter storm watch for Wednesday night, and U.S. Soccer and Georgia Dome officials agreed that the best course of action would be to postpone the game for 24 hours. The decision was made in accordance with the proactive approach by the city of Atlanta and state of Georgia to reduce the problems that occurred during a winter storm in late January. The decision was made promptly in an attempt to alert fans outside of the Atlanta area in advance of their travel plans.

“After thorough discussions, we decided the best course of action was to delay the match considering the challenges our fans would likely encounter due to the snow and icy conditions,” said U.S. Soccer Director of Communications Neil Buethe. “Our goal is to always provide the best experience for the fans and postponing the match for 24 hours will provide the 14,000-plus individuals who already purchased tickets with the best opportunity to attend the match.”

The U.S. Women’s National Team faces Russia for the second leg of a two-game set this Thursday after earning a resounding 7-0 victory on Feb. 8 in Boca Raton, Fla. This week’s rematch will be shown live on ussoccer.com, and fans can also follow the match on Twitter @ussoccer_wnt.

The U.S. WNT has opened its 2014 campaign with a 2-0-0 record and looks to extend its 79-game home unbeaten streak (69-0-10) and current overall 41-game unbeaten streak (35-0-6) that dates back to March of 2012.
