Chick-fil-A Bowl Selected to New College Football Playoff

PASADENA, CALIF. (April 24, 2013) The BCS conference commissioners today selected the Chick-fil-A Bowl as one of an elite group of six bowl games to host the new College Football Playoff.

The Chick-fil-A Bowl joins the Cotton, Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar Bowls as the hosts for the new playoff structure that will begin following the 2014 college football season.

As one of the new “Host Bowls,” the Chick-fil-A Bowl will host a national Semifinal Game (#1 vs. #4 or #2 vs. #3) four times over the next 12 years. In the other eight years, the Bowl will host top ranked teams from around the country as assigned by a selection committee. All games will be played either on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1.

“We are thrilled, humble and proud to have been chosen to be a part of one of the most exciting things to ever happen in college football,” said Gary Stokan, Chick-fil-A Bowl president and CEO. “Our thanks goes out to every member of Team Atlanta who helped us win this bid and to all of our staff, volunteers, partners and sponsors who collectively have elevated the bowl to put us in this position.”

Team Atlanta, who worked to assemble the playoff bid, also included representatives from the Governor’s office, Mayor’s office, Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau, Georgia World Congress Center Authority, Georgia Dome, Atlanta Sports Council and the Atlanta Falcons. The group worked together to present a compelling bid that was ultimately approved by the group of conference commissioners today.

Now, as a part of the new College Football Playoff, the Chick-fil-A Bowl is slated to hold its first “Host Bowl” game of top-ranked teams on Dec. 31, 2014. The Chick-fil-A Bowl will host its first Semifinal Game following the 2016 season.

In preparation of its first Host Bowl game in 2014, the Chick-fil-A Bowl is now actively taking ticket and information requests from fans looking to secure access to tickets for the Host Bowl games and national Semifinal Games.
